Visit to Smrutivan was an unplanned one, we wanted to visit vetal tekdi but since Swapnil had to be back home by 08:30 AM, he suggested to visit near by hill instead of Vetak Tekdi. We readily agreed. Many a times unplanned destinations are full of surprises.
Background of Smrutivan, Kothrud
It was started in 1987 by late social worker S.V. Ketkar. He secured an eight-acre plot from the Jnana Prabhodini to put concept of Smruti Sathi Zhaade (‘Trees as tribute”) into practice.
At Smrutivan people can adopt trees by paying 1000/-with details on who has adopted three and in whose memory it is are hung on tree. Th trees are protected and nurtured by Nisargvikas Trust employees.
Pu La Deshpande had planted tree in the memory of late singger Vasant Deshpande. Many other noted personalities such as Ramesh and Seema Deo, Sumitraraje Bhosale, Ashutosh Govariker and Jayant Narlikar have planted trees in this park.
Bolstered by the success of the project, the trust set up a similar smruti udyan at old garbage dump at paud road and in Solapur as well.
We started from Cosmos bank side road. There is small uphill patch. Its not very difficult, when we were climbing several elderly people were also climbing, few elderly were taking help from others. Once you climb up, you have a very nice view. You can see Vetal Tekdi from one end to other.
View on top of hill
There is a small trail from Smrutivan to Bypass highway. Pics from this trail.

Total walk was 5.4 Kms, after this walk , Swapnil treated us with fresh fish. Since Prasad does not eat non-veg on that day, we went out and treated ourselves with nice Meduwada and tea at nearby hotel.
